about Irek Mosque
The Irek mosque in Kazan is a wonderful fruit that has grown from the seed of a terrible tragedy. Its construction began in 2015 in memory of the crash of a Boeing 747-500 aircraft en route from Moscow to Kazan.
Built on the Kremlin embankment, in the heart of Kazan, according to the project of the Architectural Studio of Yevgeny Bolotny, the mosque embodies the best traditions of Islamic architecture of the past and present.
Someone sees in its floating silhouette the Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Abu Dhabi, someone Irek resembles the Kazan cathedral mosque Kul-Sharif or the White Mosque in Bulgar … Be that as it may, its beauty is undeniable. The combination of white walls and azure domes evokes a feeling of lightness, purity, flight and freedom. Symbolically, because “Irek” in translation from Tatar means “Freedom”.

The employees of the Metal Workshop art were happy to contribute to the creation of this masterpiece. For the Irek Mosque, we made all the decorative elements made of brass:
• 12 running meters of fencing;
• 17 floor grids;
• 2 floor hatches;
• 6 window railing balusters
We tried to maintain a single style in each of the details and maximally observe the balance of complexity and sophistication characteristic of oriental patterns. You can evaluate our success by looking at the railings, each section of which consists of three symmetrical framed elements.
Our pride was the design of flights of stairs and windows. The balusters created for them from brass have a consonant with the railing, but a more compact exquisite floral motif. The same motif, but in a more complex design, has floor ventilation grilles. Their ornament seems to combine all the elements of patterns present in the Irek mosque.
Another undoubted achievement of our craftsmen is the design of windows, which is full-fledged stained-glass windows. The beauty of the noble metal of the golden bindings of the windows harmonizes surprisingly with the soft light pouring from the milky and transparent blue glass that decorates the openings.
Metal Workshop art was engaged not only in the manufacture, but also in the installation of all parts of the brass decor. And it also became a serious test, which we withstood with dignity. All the work, which was given less than a month, was completed on time – by the Eid al-Adha holiday.
